Story Changes and Characteristics:
• Take Sonic away from the current storyline, scrap it entirely because it makes absolutely no sense and is unlikable.
• Attempt to buy the rights for the Sonic Saturday morning cartoon show that has a coherent story and is a bit darker than usual Sonic stories.
• Tighten up the story and background of this series and give it even more of a sense of weary desperation. Example: Explain why Robotnik is the only human on planet, how the planet got the way it is, what exactly has happened prior to the start of the story, etc.
• His name is DR. ROBOTNIK, not Dr. Eggman, no ifs ands or buts about it.
• Will be fairly linear storyline but will have optional side quests to reward exploring.
• Most of the story will be told in cut scene, but some delivered during game play.
• Keep only a few of the characters from older series. Tails is in, Sally, some of the freedom fighters. Might have an exception for Knuckles and maybe Shadow.
• Chaos emeralds are a maybe.
Game Play Mechanics and Ideas:
• The game will be in a semi sandbox style fully 3d world.
• Sonic will be fast but not too fast so as to cause game play malfunctions.
• Camera will either be 3rd person or 1st person, unsure which, both have pros and cons, will weigh those later.
• Sonic will have a health meter. There will be no lives system.
• Rings will actually have a purpose. Sonic will not have them fly out from his body when he is hit. Rings will be limited in supply and act as a sort of mana source for Sonic. The idea behind this is that sonic is not the ubber badass that can handle any mechanical monstrosity that the newer games and cartoons make him out to be. The rings will act as a source of power that will allow him to do certain extraordinary feats. The system will allow it so that certain attacks take a certain amount of the ring's power down. Once depleted the ring is useless. Players must take caution with how they use the rings as they won't just be strewn across the map like normal sonic games.
• Fighting will be something players must make a choice to do or not to do within the game. As rings will be sparse they must be conserved for important battles. Sonic can do a few attacks on his own strength but nothing particularly spectacular. The player must be cunning and crafty to make it passed enemies. Examples being: Having enemies hurt other enemies by accident, luring enemies into traps, or just avoiding enemies altogether to create an element of stealth. How the player deals with the enemy is entirely up to them, there will not be just one way to do it.
• Unsure if support characters will play a part in actual game play aspects of the game, or if a possible co-op mode will be available. At the very least the support characters will be a source of information and or transportation.
• Some RPG elements will be placed within the game itself. As Sonic fights, his skills become stronger and will either take up more energy from rings, or will stay the same strength and cost less energy to do so. Probably both.
